Biography

John has been a legal practitioner since his admission to the Roll of Solicitors for Northern Ireland in 2004. He was subsequently admitted to the Roll in the Republic of Ireland in 2008.

During his time as a solicitor John specialised in Criminal Law, Litigation, Public Law/Judicial Review. He attended over 500 PACE interviews advising and defending clients in a range of serious and complex criminal offences. An experienced court advocate, John has represented clients at all court levels in the jurisdiction.

John is also an experienced regulatory lawyer having been appointed by the Law Society of Northern Ireland as Director of Solicitor Complaints and Head of Professional Conduct.

John currently holds fee paying Ministerial and NIJAC appointments. John was previously appointed, by the Minister for Justice, Presiding Member of the Civil Legal Services Appeals Panel for Northern Ireland. He was also an appointed Legal Chair for the Health and Social Care Board’s Disciplinary Committee.

John has lectured on a range of legal topics at the Law Society of Northern Ireland and the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (QUB).
