Brian was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 1978 and took silk in 2001. He is an active member of the Commercial Bar Association, the Criminal Bar Association, the Family Bar Association, the Personal Injury Bar Association and the Judicial Review Group. Brian is a founding member of the Northern Ireland Pro Bono Unit. Brian served for many years on both the Bar and Executive Councils carrying out many functions in support of the profession.

2001; Appointed Queen’s Counsel at the Inn of Court Northern Ireland.
2011; Appointed Senior Counsel at the Bar of Ireland.
2009; Appointed to Senior Panel in Medical Negligence and General Litigation for the Directorate of Legal Services in Northern Ireland.
Appointed part time Chair First Tier Tribunal at Immigration Services Tribunal and Information Rights Tribunal London.
Brian practises in a wide area of Litigation and has done so since 1978. He takes a particular interest in Human Rights Law as applied across various areas of litigation generally including Family Law and Public Inquiries. He was counsel for injured parties in the Bloody Sunday Inquiry in 2000 - 2003. He is also is a qualified Mediator.
