Called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in September 1995 and the Bar of Ireland in October 1998 Barry has a wide and varied employment law practice covering the Industrial and Fair Employment Tribunals, County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. Barry has represented clients in complex, high value discrimination claims involving religious belief/political opinion, sex, sexual orientation, race, disability and age as well as unfair dismissal, breach of contract, TUPE, equal pay, whistleblowing, restraint of trade, stress at work cases and employment related injunctive relief proceedings.
Clients include trade union members, senior executives, financial institutions, Universities and other educational organisations, religious bodies, newspaper publications and broadcasters, airlines, government and health care agencies, political organisations, telecommunication operators, members of the hospitality and food industry, multi-nationals and legal professional bodies. Barry has represented employees on behalf of the Equality Commission and is presently a member of the Government Civil Panel (A list) and Directorate of Legal Services Panel (A List).
In addition, Barry also practises in the areas of commercial law (having a strong construction related background), chancery law, public/administrative law and in the area of Environmental Law.
