Prior to her call to the Bar in 2015 Maura was admitted as a Solicitor in 1991 onto the roll of Solicitors by the Law Society of Northern Ireland. She practised as an assistant solicitor for 8 years and as a Partner for 15 years in a busy City Centre Practice.

Maura has been steeped in General Legal Practice for the last 25 years and has gained specific experience in particular legal fields:
24 Years’ experience of plaintiff and defence litigation including road traffic accidents, medical negligence, public liability and employers’ liability claims in both the High Court and County Court as a Solicitor . Cases include Patrick McKnight v DOE and M&P Bradley [2005} NIQB 1. As a barrister Maura seeks to build on her involvement in this area.
Through her background as a solicitor for the utility sector Maura has experience acting for Companies operating in this area specialising in Street Works Legislation, HSG 47 – Avoiding dangers from Underground Services, National Joint Utilities Group (NJUG) ICE and NEC form of contracts and associated Public Liability Claims.
In her former role as a solicitor, Maura provided representation to a leading electricity DNO which included providing advice on employers’ liability, public liability, product liability, vehicle damage recovery, third party cable and equipment claims, utility regulatory matters and providing advice under the Electricity Northern Ireland Order and the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations (ESQCR).
As a Solicitor Maura provided services to individuals employed in the cash handling industry to include personal injury claims associated with cash box explosions including inter alia industrial deafness and tinnitus claims.

Solicitor advisor to the first company in Northern Ireland to obtain an ex parte injunction to prevent a strike.
Solicitor advisor to employees dismissed by reason of redundancy by an international organisation contrary to the consultation obligations of the Employment Rights Order securing the maximum award permissible from the Industrial Tribunal.
