Biography

Emma was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in September 2014. During her pupillage Emma gained extensive experience in the areas of Family Law and Matrimonial Law including both public and private law proceedings, ancillary relief and divorce proceedings as well as experience in Civil Litigation including road traffic collisions, personal injury, employer liability, medical negligence and contractual disputes at all court tiers.

During her first year of practice Emma worked as a member of the Sisters of Nazareth Legal Team for the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry gaining an in-depth knowledge of this area of practice.

Emma currently specialises in all aspects of Family Law and has provided representation in residence and contact applications, change of name applications, re-location proceedings, Hague convention proceedings, care proceedings, adoption and freeing proceeding, secure accommodation applications and education supervision orders on behalf of parents, Local Authorities and Guardian ad Litems. During her time at the bar Emma has also represented clients in civil law matters, chancery proceedings, bankruptcy proceedings, criminal proceedings, Immigration tribunals and Employment tribunals.

Emma is a member of the Attorney General’s Junior Panel and served as Junior Counsel to the Attorney General in the case of Gareth Lee -v- Ashers Baking Company Ltd and Others [2016] NICA 39.

Emma has been a member of the Government legal Services Civil D Panel since 2016.
